Programma 2121 discusses social value assessment at the Salone della CSR
22 November 2024On October 10, 2024, at Bocconi University, Lendlease participated in the Salone della CSR e dell'innovazione sociale, presenting the new SROI 2024 results of Programma 2121 with a valuation in the $10.3-13.9 range.
Dr. Nadia Boschi, Head of Sustainability Italy and Continental Europe, ESG Director Lendlease Italy Sgr, presented the growth path of the Programma 2121 within the panel entitled Business and Prison: What are the possible developments?. The event, coordinated by Filippo Giordano, Professor of Business Economics at LUMSA, was attended by various representatives of companies and non-profit associations, who discussed the importance of study and work for prisoners.
Lendlease, through Programma 2121, in strategic partnership with the Italian Ministry of Justice, invests resources to create work placements for the labour and social reintegration of inmates. The aim is to create a repeatable and scalable model to reduce the crime recidivism rate, currently equal to 70% in Italy, and improve the quality, safety and attractiveness of urban areas.
Programma 2121 is part of Lendlease's goal to create a total of EUR 250 million in social value beyond market obligations. This project is evaluated by a third party to ensure transparency and verifiability of the result achieved.. From 2018 to date, the project has been evaluated three times, achieving a progressive growth in the value of the SROI. For the three-year period 2019-2021, the Social Return on Investment was assessed at 1:4.5. For the following two years 2022-2023, the value was found to be between 1:4.2 and 1:5.6. The latest evaluation confirmed the validity of the model, in fact the Social Return on Investment is very high, with a SROI for 2024 showing, for every dollar invested, a value creation in the range of $10.3-13.9.
The aspects that contribute positively to this assessment are particularly significant: the sense of dignity, the improvement of individual and family financial position, employability and the cultural change triggered in the Milanese context. The objective of the project is not only to create a job, but to enable people to find a job (see the DigiTrain initiative), while improving their quality of life.
The speech concluded by pointing out that the United Nations has recognised Programma 2121 model as replicable internationally. This project is a concrete example of how large companies can contribute to social inclusion and sustainable development.
